Kathmandu, March 28
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division says it has booked 1,173 vehicles plying Kathmandu roads for various offences on the day of the Holi festival.
Fearing drink-driving might lead to accidents as people are in the celebration mood, the division says it has boosted checking across the city. Over 700 traffic police have been mobilised at 90 checkpoints in the Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts.
Janak Bhattarai, the chief of the division, says 458 vehicles are still under the cops’ control, and they will be released after a screening later today. Meanwhile, the police have taken additional action against 31 riders and drivers, according to Bhattarai.
Consequently, no serious accidents have been reported in the city today, claim police.
Police have also barred the public from organising public functions on the occasion of Holi citing the Covid-19 fears. However, public celebrations were seen at some places in the city.
