Labourers involved in the construction of Lower Modikhola Hydropower Project have started an agitating demanding a serious pay hike and other facilities.
Those involved in the construction of a tunnel at Ambot are demanding a hike of 25 per cent, job security and insurance.
One of the project developers, South Asian Infrastructure (P) Ltd, and labour representatives had talks on Wednesday, but they were inconclusive. SAI had hiked pay by nine per cent, but this had failed to impress the workforce.
SAI had got a contract from Manang Trade for the construction of the 4.2-kilometre tunnel. It is yet to complete the construction of a 445-metre stretch.
The contractor had promised to meet workers’ demands within 15 days, but it failed to keep the promise, Krishna Bahadur Lamichhane, who is spearheading the protest in the capacity of leader of a struggle committee comprising the construction workers, said.
