New York, September 25
Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat has said Nepal’s new Constitution has addressed aspirations of all Nepalis.
Minister Mahat, addressing the 71st general assembly of the United Nations as the chief of Nepal’s delegation, said promulgation of a Constitution, which incorporates aspirations of all Nepalis, through a popularly-elected Constituent Assembly is an important achievement of the peace process.
He made it clear that the government is trying to bring dissenting parties and groups to an agreement through talks.
Nepal’s Charter is inclusive, non-discriminatory and democratic, Mahat said, pointing that presence of women in leadership positions in all three organs of the state is an example for the entire world.
Nepal is committed to human rights protection, he said, adding that Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Inquiry Commission on Disappearances are studying and investigating conflict-era cases.
