Nepal’s foreign minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, who is in New York to attend the UN’s  General Assembly, met US President Barack Obama last night.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mahat met Obama during a reception organised by Obama to welcome heads of state and government from all around the word.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who was scheduled to lead the Nepali delegation to the UNGA, cancelled his visit to pay attention to domestic issues in Nepal. Minister Mahat then led the delegation.

Mahat also met US Secretary of State John Kerry. According to the ministry, Kerry told Mahat he wants to visit Nepal sometime, and hoped Nepali political parties worked together for institutionalising democracy in the country.
