While women hold three powerful positions of the state — President, Speaker and Chief Justice, not necessarily in that order — women do not have much clout in the bureaucracy, called the permanent government.
As the infographics (below) indicates, women are unlikely to become Chief Secretary, the senior-most position in Nepal’s bureaucracy, anytime soon, for there’s not even one woman secretary at present.
All in all, the infographics is a pointer to under-representation of Nepali women in the powerful machinery called bureaucracy.
Presence of women in some of the iconic positions of the state notwithstanding, the Nepali state is far from inclusive. This infographics proves just that.
