Kathmandu, March 17
Maharajgunj police have arrested three people involved in black marketing of cooking gas during raids in Budhanilkantha, Bansbari and Tokha, in which they confiscated 220 cylinders.
They nabbed Teknath Pokhrel, proprietor of Budhanilkantha-based Nirdosh Store, with 113 Narayani Gas cylinders.
Pokhrel, according to police, used to sell bottled cooking gas cylinders for Rs 1,500-1,700 each.
Police raided Pokhrel’s store based on information that he would sell gas to acquaintances for Rs 1,500 per cylinder and charge others up to Rs 1,700/cylinder, DSP Bishwa Mani Pokhrel said.
At Bansbari, police raided Narayan Gurung’s depot and arrested him with 83 cylinders. Police raided the depot, acting on a tip that Gurung was selling bottled gas cylinders for Rs 1,500 each.
On Wednesday, police held Ramesh Dangol of Tokha with 24 Tara Gas cylinders, on the charge of selling cooking gas at exorbitant rate. Dangol confessed he had already sold 43 bottled cylinders for Rs 1,500 apiece.
DSP Pokhrel said police will initiate legal action against all three as per the Black Marketing Act.
