Repair work underway on burst Melamchi water pipeline in Babarmahal (Photos)

Kathmandu, February 13

Repair work is underway on the Melamchi Drinking Water Project pipeline that burst in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, on Wednesday afternoon during underground electrification work carried out by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

According to Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Director of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), the repair work began on Wednesday night.

The pipe burst led to flooding in the Babarmahal area on Wednesday afternoon after NEA’s drilling work caused the damage. Water continued to flow for nearly four hours following the incident.

The NEA has been working on an underground power cable management project in the Valley.

Meanwhile, Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav stated that the pipeline burst due to NEA’s failure to coordinate with the ministry and its subordinate agencies.

The NEA has admitted responsibility for the incident.
