Trishuli car plunge: Former Minister Ghimire still missing

Nepal’s former Minister for Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire and his brothers Prakash and Mohan remain missing in the Trishuli river, a day after car they were on plunged into the Trishuli near Kurintar, 100 km east of Kathmandu.

Rescuers at the scene say Ghimire’s jeep (Ba 1 cha 1531) also remains missing in the rain-swollen river.

Local authorities say bodies of Ghimire’s mother Chaitya Kumari (80), bodyguard Ramchandra Karki and relative Narayan Prasad Kafle have been recovered from the accident site.

Ghimire’s driver Bishnu Rai, who was not behind the wheel when the accident took place, was rescued alive. According to reports, Ghimire and his family was on his way back from a pilgrimage to Muktinath, and the former minister was in the driver’s seat when the vehicle fell off the road.
