Birgunj, January 6
Cadres of the United Democratic Madheshi Front and smugglers clashed at the Friendship Bridge in Birgunj on Wednesday. The clash occurred when UDMF cadres tried to prevent smugglers from entering Nepal with goods.
A local UDMF leader, Chunni Mishra, sustained injuries in the clash. He is receiving treatment at Narayani sub-regional hospital for nose injuries.
The situation has normalised now. Protesters are staging a sit-in close to the bridge. The UDMF’s Madhesh movement and the Indian blockade has been causing a severe shortage of essentials in earthquake-ravaged Nepal.
