Xi’s visit to Nepal not cancelled: China’s foreign ministry

The Chinese government on Monday said President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal has not been cancelled.

“It is not proper to say that his visit to Nepal was cancelled. We can’t say if it is cancelled or not,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters in Beijing.

Hua said China attaches great importance to its relationship with Nepal, and She the two sides were in touch with each other on the issue. “We would like to promote new development of bilateral relations with Nepal,” she added.

“China and Nepal have been in close communication on high level exchanges,” Hua said. “China attaches importance to developing relations with the new Nepali government and we would like to promote development of bilateral relations with Nepal.”

Hua added, “We have close communication with Nepal on the relevant issue (Xi’s visit) and we will release information in due course.”
