Kathmandu, December 10
A six-year-old girl in Kalika rural municipality in Rasuwa has been found dead.
The deceased, identified as Sumina Tamang, had been missing since Sunday. Police say they have arrested 19-year-old Sapana Tamang, who is believed to have kidnapped and murdered the six-year-old.
The family of Sumina had filed a report at the local police office after Sumina did not return home from school. The police found the body of the six-year-old inside a den near Nagurdung Bhir in Kalika rural municipality.
The lifeless body was covered with dry grass, say police.
The District Police Office Chief, DSP Indra Subedi, says Sapana admitted that she had killed the six-year-old. “She told us she lured her with noodles to steal the ornaments she was wearing in her ears. When the child threatened to tell on her, Sapana strangled and killed her,” says Subedi.
Subedi says that Sapana had gone with the intent to kill because they found a rope at the incident site.
Sapana in her statement told the police that after strangling Sumina, she took off her clothes and shoes and put it in her bag and threw her lifeless body in a bush nearby.
“We found the bag with the six-year-old’s belonging inside it. Nearby we also found a packet of noodles,” says Subedi.
Sapana has is being kept under custody for a week as police carry on their investigation.
