Kathmandu, January 11
Mohan Baidhya, chair of the CPN-Maoist (Revolutionary), said on Monday that all leftist parties should unite for the protection of national independence.
Baidhya was speaking at the fourth memorial day dedicated to leftist leader Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha.
Leftist parties should unite to save the country by institutionalising the republic, Baidhya maintained.
“We need to do a lot to end oppression prevalent in the country. Leftist forces need to end it,” he said, describing the late Shrestha as a far-sighted leftist leader. Ending oppression will be a true tribute to Shrestha, Baidhya reasoned.
Chair of the Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha Academy, CP Gajurel, said: “India has imposed a blockade not to support the Madhesh movement, but to oppress Nepal.”
Lal Babu Yadav, another speaker, said: Instead of fighting each other, Madheshi and Pahadi should come together and protect the country.
Dr Upendra Devkota, chair of the National Awareness Campaign Nepal, said domestic forces should unite first to protect the country.
