Kathmandu, February 21
In the run-up to his visit to India, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held discussions with enterpreneurs and industrialists on Thursday. The discussions focused on economic issues that Nepal should raise during his visit.
Businesspeople associated with Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Nepali Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industries participated in the discussions. Apart from PM Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Industries Minister Som Prasad Pandey and Commerce Minister Dipak Bohora were present at the discussions, NCC President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha said.
On the occasion, the business community reprsentatives asked PM Oli to discuss with India ways to ease bilateral trade in the long run. They also asked him to discuss ways to address transit problems, ways to attract Indian investment and implement the concept of integrated checkposts. These checkposts have remained on paper for long, despite an agreement between Nepal and India to build such structures in four places.
They complained that they have not been able to make use of the dry port, asking PM Oli to raise this issue with India. On the occasion, they also asked India to take initiatives for attracting more and more Indian tourists to Nepal. Indian nationals top the list of tourist arrivals in Nepal.
FNCCI President Pashupati Murarka told Onlinekhabar they will present written suggestions to PM Oli regarding the topics they want raised during his India visit.
