Kuwait, February 17
The Nepali embassy in Kuwait has banned the local Nepali community from organising any formal events from now on.
The decision was made after participants at a programme organised to celebrate Lhosar on Friday resorted to violence. During the programme, which had Nepal’s ambassador as chief guests, some participants clashed with each other, and even used household weapons.
Local police had to intervene, and detain 10 people involved in the incident.
Nepali embassy in Kuwait said in a statement that it has taken the incident seriously, and it has decided not to allow Nepalis to organise formal progammes in the future. This is not the first time that such an incident took place. There have been similar events in the past where rival groups have clashed during formal events.
