At 85, Min Bahadur Sherchan of Bhurung, Tatopani, is the man on a mission. He is raring to reclaim his lost title — the title of the oldest man to climb Everest.
Actually, Sherchan had set out on his Mission Everest last year itself but the April 25 mega quake brought his campaign to a halt.
On May 25, 2008, Sherchan had climbed the world’s tallest peak at the age of 78 and registered his name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person to climb Everest. But he lost the title to Japanese national Yuichiro Miura, who scaled the peak at the age of 80.
Meanwhile, people of Myagdi district, who are living abroad, have started raising funds to assist Sherchan’s Everest mission. Myagdi Overseas Nepalis’ Association (UK) recently organised a press conference, appealing all to help Sherchan in his mission.
MONA (UK) has also formed an assistance committee under Tej Ramjali Pun Magar, adviser, MONA (UK), to help Sherchan.
Ramjali informed that they will constitute a committee in Nepal as well and other countries where MONA has branches to make Sherchan’s mission successful.
