Kathmandu, March 24
As the new climbing season approaches, activity has begun at Everest Base Camp.
According to the Department of Tourism, preparations are underway, with teams setting up camps at the base camp. Icefall doctors have also started fixing ropes along the climbing route, with 600 meters of rope already secured, said department director Aarti Neupane.
Currently, temperatures in the Everest region are dropping to as low as -14°C. The latest update from the department highlights strong winds during both day and night as an additional challenge for climbers.
Spring is the most popular season for Everest expeditions, generating the highest revenue in climbing royalties for the government. The department is now set to begin issuing climbing permits for the season.
