Kathmandu, June 20

The KP Sharma Oli government has constituted a committee to study the standards and quality of cooking gas cylinders in view of recent deaths in cylinder blasts. The committee comprises one member each from the Ministry of Supplies and one expert.

Minister for Supplies Ganesh Man Singh said: Cooking gas cylinders have become more danagerous than bombs. I have directed the concerned to conduct a study on the quality and standards of cylinders and bring all gas companies under one framework.

A source at the ministry said it is preparing to take tough action against those companies that send cylinders in the market without conducting hydraulic tests. The committee will monitor all gas companies, see whether they have conducted hydraulic tests or not and bring companies, which have not adhered to governing laws, under legal ambit.

Currently, there are around 67 lakh cooking gas cylinders in circulation in the market.
