Pilgrims headed for Mustang stranded due to landslides

Babiyachaur, July 3

Incessant rainfall and resulting landslides have brought vehicular movement to a halt in parts of Myagdi district.

Due to the monsoon havoc, roads joining district headquarters Beni with rural areas have shut.

Road-Block

Devendra Poudel, office chief of Myagdi jeep and bus operators’ committee, said vehicular movement has come to a halt along Beni-Jomsom, Beni-Darvang and Beni-Pakhapani roads, among others.

He says traffic movement will resume only after maintenance of these roads.

Beni-Jomsom road has remained shut for three days due to landslides at Titar, Dana-3, Tiplyang and Kavrebhir.

Indra Singh Sherchan, a hotelier in Dana, says pilgrims, tourists and local people heading to and returning from Mustang have remained stuck at various places, thanks to lack of heavy equipment to remove the debris and reopen the road.

Meanwhile, Beni is reeling under an acute shortage of drinking water as a section of the pipeline, located close to Campus Chok, has burst. Landslides at the Beni-Galeshwor section have also caused damage to another pipeline. An organisation managing the pipeline said repair work is underway.
