Law and disorder: Bluff callers giving Rupandehi cops hard time

police-call-control

Bhairahawa, July 12

Rupandehi district police office has vowed to act tough against bluff callers, who have been giving officers at the control room a tough time. This comes after police failed in their bids to make such callers behave by suggesting them to mend ways, over the phone.

Most of the male bluff callers verbally abuse police officers, grossly misusing the hotline (100) meant for security emergencies.

When police personnel on duty pick up the phone, callers start hurting police personnel with invectives, police officer Ajaya Kumar Chhetri, who is with Rupandehi DPO’s control room, says. Such callers do not even spare our family members. And when we warn them of action, they hurt us with choicest invectives instead of stopping, Chhetri says.

According to Chhetri, most of the callers are aged 12 to 20 years. When we call up their numbers, no one picks the phone, he says.

According to Rameshwor Karki, deputy superintendent of police and spokesperson for the DPO, they have to handle about 40 callers on an average day.

He says: While male callers subject police to verbal abuse, female callers want to pass time by chatting. We suggest such callers to stop calling us for no reason.

But police suggestions and advices have fallen on deaf ears, so the district police has made up its mind to subject bluff callers to some tough action.

Spokesperson Karki says they have phone numbers of bluff callers on record.

He says: We plan to arrest bluff callers and initiate action against them.

According to Karki, most of these bluff callers have NCell SIM cards.
