Police clash with Kulman Ghising’s supporters during protest in Kathmandu (Photos)

Kathmandu, March 25

A scuffle broke out between the police and demonstrators protesting against the government’s decision to dismiss Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising.

Supporters of Ghising marched from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwor Chowk, where they attempted to move forward despite restrictions in the area. The confrontation occurred as police tried to prevent them from advancing.

The Cabinet meeting on Monday evening decided to remove Ghising from his position, a decision that has sparked protests even from leaders within the ruling party. In response, security at the NEA office in Ratnapark has been heightened since early Tuesday morning.

At the protest in Maitighar, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “The people have awakened, enough is enough,” “Long live Bright Nepal,” and “Long live Kulman Ghising.”
