Kathmandu, August 7
A leader of the United Democratic Madheshi Front said on Sunday that the government of Nepal should also declare an Indian national, who died in course of the Madhesh Movement, a ‘martyr’.
Ashish Ram, an Indian national from Raxaul, had died in course of clashes between protesters and Nepali security personnel in Birgunj on November 2, 2015.
Rajendra Mahato, president of the Sadbhavana Party, a UDMF constituent, told Onlinekhabar: Ashish Ram will also be included in the list of marytrs, who died in course of the Madhesh Movement. He (Ram) gave his life (for the movement), so he should be declared a martyr. Ethnicity and nationality do not matter in this case.
The Prachanda-led government has said it will provide one million rupees each to families of people, who died while taking part in the movement. The Ministry of Home has also called the UDMF to provide the names of the victims.
Mahato pointed: In the movement against the Rana oligarchy, an Indian national killed in Jogbani was declared a martyr. The UDMF will include the name of Indian national Ashish Ram in the list of people killed during the Madhesh movement.
