Kathmandu, August 22
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Monday directed Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Ramesh Lekhak, to establish two more transport management offices in Kathmandu district and one more in Bhaktapur district so as to provide prompt and reliable services to service-seekers.
The directive comes amid complaints that transport management offices in the Kathmandu Valley have not been able to provide prompt services to an ever-increasing number of service-seekers.
Prakash Dahal, a member of Prachanda’s Secretariat, said the prime minister issued this directive to make transport offices’
services promot, efficient, effective, accessible and public-friendly.
Member Dahal said the move is in keeping with the government policy of making government offices customer-friendly. He added that the government will take similar steps in other offices as well.
Transport management offices issue driving licences, renew the bill book and issue route permits, among others.
Prime Minister Dahal also directed Minister Lekhak to take driving licence tests for 4,000-5,000 people at one time and conduct paperwork related to renewal and route permit issuance, among others, online.
On his part, Minister Lekhak pledged to implement PM’s directives after doing adequate homework.
