Kathmandu, November 17

A recent report of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division shows that roads in the Kathmandu Valley are in bad shape.

In its report submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister, MTPD states that major roads of the valley are full of potholes. It states there are potholes in all roads of the valley save Lagankhel-Bhadrakali section, Jamal-Sital Niwas section and Singhadurbar-Baluwatar stretch. MTPD said the road joining Sital Niwas (the Presidential Palace) with Samakhushi is full of potholes.

MTPD collects information about condition of Kathmandu’s roads every day and prepares a report. It makes the report available to PMO every Friday. But the condition of roads remain much the same, with authorities not bothering to act on recommenations.

On Wednesday, though, Prime Minister Prachanda called officials of the Department of Roads at his office and told them to repair the roads.

As per MTPD, there are huge potholes in front of Koteshwor police office, in front of the ward office along Jadibuti-Pepsicola stretch and at the Manohara Bridge. The department has not bothered to repair these roads.

In Teku, in front of Ambe Complex, there are such holes. The road joining the Chittadhar square and Tankeshwor is also in poor shape. As if all this were not enough, broken sewage pipes along these stretches have given the whole area an ugly look.

In Kapan, potholes are everywhere. According to MTPD, roads at Sukedhara Chok and Kapan-Nilopul area are in really bad shape.

In Bhaktapur, major sections of the Kaushaltar-Gatthaghar road are full of potholes. MTPD points that Gatthaghar-Anudan Chok, Sanothimi-Magargaun and Kaushaltar-Balkot sections are in poor shape with the pitch worn out.

In Lalitpur, Nakkhu Dobato-Ekantakuna stretch and roads at Bypass Mode are full of potholes.
