Jajarkot, November 24

More than 300 households in ward numbers 5 and 6 of Khagenkot VDC, Jajarkot district, have not been able to light up their homes for want of money required for purchasing electric poles, transmitters and power cable.

Close to their houses is a project that generates 15 KW of electricity from the Khamaure Stream. Despite this, we have no access to electricity because we don’t have money to buy the poles, Narayan Khatri of Khagenkot-6 said.

Dalits constitute a majority in the two wards. A delegation of locals had visited then Energy Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and got assurance that the government will provide them the poles.

We have repeatedly asked Jajarkot District Development Committee for poles, but to no avail, another local, Bir Bahadur Khatri, lamented.

According to an estimate, these locals will require around Rs 3.2 million.

Ram Prasad Khatri of Halchaur said: Everyone gives us assurance, but no one keeps the promise. We are fed up with these pledges. For want of funds, people of Halchaur have also been living in the dark.
