Biratnagar, November 24
Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, president of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic, on Thursday suggested the government to hold referenda in disputed districts to find which provinces local people want their districts to be part of.
Gachchhadar said referenda should be conducted in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha and Udayapur districts to know what the people of those districts want, which province they want their districts to be in. He demanded holding such referendum in Palpa, Pyuthan, Rolpa and Gulmi districts as well.
Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport, Gachchhadar said leaders of big parties do not stick to their own decisions.
He said: They split districts at one time and say sometime later that their home districts should be one. They agree on formation of eight provinces, but end up carving out seven. Sometime, they say they have no problem with the old structure, only to protest against the same later.
Gachchhadar added: They support the Commission on State Restructuring, only to slam it later. Problems have arisen because leaders lack conviction.
He further said any Constitution amendment proposal should have the sanction of three major parties.
“Madheshi Morcha leaders themselves differ on the proposal, while the CPN-UML is totally against the same,” he said, adding that this has made the amendment proposal contradictory.
Gachchhadar said his party will make its stance on the Constitution amendment proposal once the proposal is registered in the Parliament after an understanding between leaders of three major parties.
