Ready to welcome foreign investment with open arms, say Nepali Congress, CPN-UML

Kathmandu, March 2

At the investment conference that began in Kathmandu on Thursday, the ruling Nepali Congress and the main opposition CPN-UML seemed to be competing with each other when it came to attracting foreign investment.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba appealed investors to pour their capital into farm sector and infrastructure sector, especially airport and energy. The government will make policy-related arrangements for creation of an investment-friendly climate, Deuba said, asking investors to show up with a commitment.

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli said his party was ready to welcome investors in sectors of their liking.

We are the opposition, but in matters of foreign investment and resulting development, we will not be uncooperative. In fact, we will provide more help than the government, he said without elaborating.

The onus is on all sides to create an investment-friendly environment, he said, adding that the UML is ready to do its bit for the same.
