Kathmandu, March 13
Chief election commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said on Monday that local level elections slated for May 14 will take place as they have all that it takes to conduct the elections, including logistics and laws.
CEC Yadav said this while speaking at a programme at Reporters’ Club. Yadav also stressed the need for political parties to come to an understanding by resolving their differences.
He said: For this, the government and major political parties should take initiatives.
Yadav said his office has stepped up preparations for elections. He stressed the need for all political parties to play a positive role for creation of an election-friendly environment.
UDMF will come on board
CEC Yadav expressed confidence that United Democratic Madheshi Front will go for elections at the last minute. He pointed that nine years ago also, UDMF had decided not to take part in elections, but had come on board later.
This time also, UDMF will take part in local level elections, he said. According to Yadav, EC has taken the process of publishing the voters’ list at the final stage. Review of voting centres is currently underway, he said, adding: Printing of ballot papers has started and Election Commission is speeding up technical works.
He said establishment of voting centres at village councils and municipalities is also at the final stage. Polls can be conducted in Madhesh as well, Yadav said, calling on the government to pay due attention for the same.
