The Biplav-led Communist Party of Nepal said on Thursday that it will boycott local elections, describing the exercise as continuation of the past. At the same time, the party described the announcement of polls as meaningless.
Party chief Biplav made it clear that his party is not against conducting elections, but hastened to add that upcoming polls make no sense.
Biplav said they have no plan to disrupt elections. Like during the people’s war, we will neither recognise the upcoming elections nor will we disrupt the same, he maintained. Speaking at a press conference organised to inform about the party’s general convention, Biplav said: Under Prachanda’s leadership, we boycotted three elections during the people’s war. And now, elections are taking place under Prachanda’s leadership. How can we accept this?
At the conference, Biplav unveiled a 61-member central committeee formed after the convention that elected Biplav as the party’s general secretary.
