Kathmandu, April 17
President Bidya Devi Bhandari embarked on a five-day state visit to India on Monday morning at the invitation of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
This will be Bhandari’s first visit to India as President of Nepal. Bhandari departed at 11:00 am. Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, lawmakers, advisers and experts working for the Office of the President and high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are part of the Nepali delegation accompanying Bhandari.
The President will meet her Indian counterpart Mukherjee, Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She will also visit Gujrat and Orrisa and interact with the Nepali community there. She is to return on Friday.
The government has declared a public holiday on Monday and Friday to mark the departure and arrival of the president.
