Kathmandu, May 8
The United States Embassy along with the Youth Thinkers Society is holding the Everest International Model United Nations (EIMUN) for the third time in Nepal at Park Village Resort from from Tuesday.
The EIMUN is bringing 200 young delegates representing 16 countries; from South and Central Asia, and beyond, together to enhance the regional connectivity and build connections for a better future.
US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B Teplitz and United Nations Resident Coordinator to Nepal, Valerie Julliand lit a traditional Nepali lamp to kickoff the third annual Everest International Model United Nations (EIMUN) yesterday.
EIMUN aims to engage, empower, and educate over 200 young future leaders have travelled from 16 South and Central Asian countries to debate pressing current issues with the goal of successfully implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to the organisers.
Inaugurating the event, Ambassador Teplitz encouraged all delegates to take the skills they learn from EIMUN and transfer these skills to careers in diplomacy back home. She highlighted the important role young leaders will play now and in the future “to achieve SDGs that promise inclusive and equitable access to security, education, and economic opportunity to both young women and young men.”
United Nations Resident Coordinator Valerie Julliand highlighted the importance of diplomacy and the need for the youth to stand up for a better future. Addressing the crowd, she said, “We need to fight for what’s right, and do it in a respectful manner.”
EIMUN will continue till Friday.
