Communist govt began attacking democracy, complains Deuba

Sher Bahadur Deuba

Kathmandu, May 29

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has complained that the incumbent government led by the Nepal Communist Party began attacking democracy.

The main opposition party leader says the government’s efforts to control press freedom and National Human Rights Commission were oriented towards attacking democracy.

Deuba appeals to cadres and leaders of his party to stay ready to protect democratic values.

“Where there is no press freedom, there is no democracy,” Deuba said at a function organised on the occasion of Republic Day in Kathmandu, “It’s a high time that all party leaders and cadres were ready to protect democracy.”

On the occasion, the former prime minister expressed his commitment to saving achievements of democratic movements so that there would not be another fight for democracy in the country.
