Cabinet will decide on Nijagadh airport soon: Minister Bhattarai

Yogesh Bhattarai assumes office as the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

Chitwan, November 17

Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Yogesh Bhattarai says the government will soon give its nod to begin construction of the proposed second international airport in Nijadh, Bara.

Minister Bhattarai, who is in Chitwan to attend the World Rangers’ Conference, also says the government is thinking of renaming the airport in view of its geographical location.

“We have sent the EIA report to the forest ministry. Officials there are studying the report. The two ministries are working to finalise a joint proposal to send to the cabinet,” said Bhattarai. After the proposal is approved, it will be clear which modality will be adopted to build the airport.

“The land chosen for the airport is not just limited to Nijgadh, it also includes land in Jitpur. That is why we need to rename it Bara airport,” he added.
Bhattarai’s comments come as the minister pledged to begin construction of the airport within the second week of December.
