Kathmandu, December 25
The central bank of Nepal has launched a campaign to promote digital transaction at small businesses such as vegetable stalls.
Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari inaugurated the campaign on Friday by paying Rs 80 by scanning a QR code for a kilogram of ginger at a vegetable market in Naxal of Kathmandu. Sanima Bank Limited and Vianet have partnered with the central bank to make the shopkeepers access the internet and needful digital facilities.
Speaking there, Governor Adhikari said the bank would promote cashless transactions across the country. He said one of the biggest vegetable markets of the capital, Kalimati, would also boast this facility soon.
On the occasion, Nepal Bankers’ Association President Bhuwan Dahal said commercial banks would also partner with the central bank in this campaign as digital transactions are safer than cash transactions.
