To unify UML and stay in power, Oli withdraws suspension of Madhav K Nepal, 3 others

L-R: Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, and Ghanashyam Bhusal

Kathmandu, May 13

After the rival group warned of resigning from the lawmakers’ positions thereby enabling the opposition parties to form a majority government, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has withdrawn the suspension imposed on four CPN-UML leaders.

Earlier in March-April, Oli had suspended Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Ghanashyam Bhusal from the party for six months, accusing them of carrying out various activities against the party leadership. Since Oli removing leaders from all responsibilities and inducting some leaders from the CPN-Maoist Centre without organising a formal meeting, the Nepal faction has been opposing the Oli leadership and organising parallel activities.

But, a standing committee meeting of the party held on Thursday morning withdrew the action. Oli’s chief political advisor Bishnu Rimal, also a member of the standing committee, says the decision was made considering unity in the party.

The disgruntled faction is yet to respond to the new decision.
