Kathmandu, July 22
The central bank of the country, Nepal Rastra Bank, and 13 commercial banks say they have received hacking threats from unidentified sources on Wednesday. Yet, they have claimed their security systems are strong and the customers need not worry.
“Unidentified people emailed and telephoned us, but we tested all of our systems as well as those of other banks to find that everything is okay,” NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari says.
Nabil Bank CEO Anil Keshary Shah says he also received an email yesterday evening with a threat to hack the bank’s systems and immediately informed the central bank about the issue.
He also claims his team reviewed the systems and found there were not any security issues.
The NRB, Nabil Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Kumari Bank, Nepal Bank Limited, Machhapuchhre Bank, NMB Bank, NIC Asia Bank, Citizens International Bank, Bank of Kathmandu, Sanima Bank, Everest Bank, Himalayan Bank and Nepal Investment Bank received such threats, it has been learned.
