Kathmandu, September 3
Members of the student wing of the CPN-Unified Socialist, a party in Nepal’s ruling coalition, has burned an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kathmandu, on Friday.
The cadres staged a demonstration in the capital protesting the alleged involvement of the Indian Sashstra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel in an incident in which one Jaya Singh Dhami disappeared into the Mahakali river in the Darchuala district of far-western Nepal.
The incident that took place on July 30 has received widespread attention as Dhami had reportedly fallen off a tuin, a makeshift cable contraption installed across the river to cross it, as soon as an Indian border security staffer allegedly snapped it.
Protesting the lack of response from India and the Nepal government’s inaction, the cadres of the newly formed party staged a demonstration and burned the effigy of Modi in Kathmandu today.
An investigation committee consisting of bureaucrats and police officials has also confirmed the presence of Indian personnel’s presence in the incident site. However, it has failed to categorically hold them responsible for the incident. As per the recommendation of the same committee, the MoHA wrote to the MoFA on Thursday to raise this issue with India.
But, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has said it has not received any official communication regarding the matter.
