Kathmandu, February 25

The government is preparing to hold a national agriculture census in late April this year.

As the national population census, the agriculture census also takes place every 10 years. Generally, the agriculture census is held after around six months of the population census.

Accordingly, the seventh agriculture census will be held in late April, informs Badri Kumar Karki, a director of the Central Bureau of Statistics.

In this census, the bureau will visit around 350,000 farming households and collect details about agricultural activities such as the availability of arable land, fertiliser and seeds. Although it is called the census, not every single agricultural family will be covered, clarifies Shrestha.

Because Nepal is still an agrarian economy, this census will be important in formulating the right policies for the country’s development, informs Karki.

The government has allocated Rs 1 billion for the project.
