Dhangadhi, March 31
The Achham District Court has sentenced a 19-year-old girl to prison for 3.5 years after it was found that she charged a man with a fake rape accusation.
A bench of District Judge Naveen Kumar Joshi issued the verdict to imprison the girl from the Kamalbajaar municipality-19 of the district. She had lodged a complaint in February claiming a 20-year-old man from the district’s Ramaroshan rural municipality raped her.
However, while testifying in court, she changed her statement saying it was consensual sex. The court, then, interpreted this as an effort to tarnish the man’s image and frame him in the wrong case with a fake rape accusation.
Consequently, she has been sentenced as per section 44 of the National Criminal Procedure Code, 2017.
