Kathmandu, June 1
Nepali hotels will stop using single-use plastics. The Hotel Association of Nepal at an event on Wednesday said that it was starting a campaign to stop using single-use plastics at hotels.
With this, HAN said hotels from now on will stop keeping one-time use products like toothbrushes, hairbrushes, plastic slippers and other items that come with the plastic packaging. It said that it wants to help control the pollution crisis in the country.
HAN said that first to be involved in the campaign will be big hotels after which smaller ones will also join.
HAN’s president Srijana Rana said that it was starting this campaign as demand for plastic-free rooms was high in demand throughout the world. The association’s first vice-president Binayak Shah said that all hotels will implement this in the coming two years.
“This is not a commercial campaign nor are we being supported by any aid organisation. We want to do this to do our bit to combat the climate crisis,” said Shah. “We want to be part of the country’s plastic-free campaign.”
