Kathmandu, July 21
The Lalitpur metropolitan city says it will run a bicycle rental service to promote cycling in the city.
Organising a press conference on Wednesday, the local government announced the programme called Shared Bicycle Scheme. Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan says cycle stands will be installed at major junctions of the city and they can be rented online or on the spot for use.
The rented bicycles will be tracked with the GPS.
The city is contracting a business organisation to operate the service, according to the city spokesperson Raju Maharjan.
“People who do not have their cycles but need them to go to their destinations can rent from us by paying digitally,” he says, “This bicycle rental service will be very affordable.”
Meanwhile, the city police began patrolling the area on electric scooters from Thursday onwards.
