Kathmandu, August 23
The United States Embassy in Kathmandu says the US government is giving USD 15 million in aid to Nepal to help it deal with the food crisis here.
Issuing a statement on Monday, the embassy said the aid would be a part of the recently announced USD2.76-billion US government funding to address the global food crisis.
“Nepal is one of more than 47 countries and regional organisations receiving funding from the US government to save lives and mitigate further increases in poverty, hunger, and malnutrition as a result of rising prices of food, fertiliser, and fuel,” the statement reads.
“In Nepal, the supplemental funding will help ensure that people affected by rising prices and food shortages have enough to eat. Activities include supporting small farms to produce more food locally and households in need of food assistance. These funds will also support nutrition-enhanced food for children under the age of five and pregnant women.”
