Kathmandu, January 27
Experts have said that air accidents have increased in Nepal due to failure to fully comply with the norms set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Former Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Sanjeev Gautam, then Director General of Aviation Department Birendra Bahadur Deuja, and former Engineer Director of Nepal Airlines Achyut Raj Pahari said that there is a lack of skilled human resources in the country to make its airspace safe.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Affairs and Coordination Committee under the National Assembly of the Parliament on Friday, Pahari said that Nepal’s air service will be safe if the standards specified by ICAO are fully complied with.
He said that Nepali airline companies should also pay special attention to the management of skilled human resources.
Former Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, Gautam, said that emphasis should be placed on increasing the efficiency of the regulatory bodies to make Nepal’s air service safe. He drew the attention of the government to pay attention to structural reforms for air service safety.
Deuja pointed out that there is a need for airline companies to proceed in a professional manner to make Nepal’s air service safe and reliable.
He clarified that air accidents can be minimized in Nepal even if we proceed based on the suggestions on the accident reports.
