Kathmandu, May 21
The Minimum Wages Fixation Committee (MWFC) has recommended the government increase the journalist minimum wage by 40 per cent.
If implemented, the minimum wage for journalists will be Rs 34,125.
The committee chairperson, Sangita Khadka, met Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma and submitted a report putting forth the demand. At present, the minimum monthly wage for journalists is Rs 24,375.
On the occasion, the president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Bipul Pokharel, drew the attention of the government to fully implement the minimum wage provisions recommended by the committee while stressing the need for the government to take initiatives to create an environment conducive for media houses to implement them.
