Waste collection to stop from Wednesday after Bancharedanda locals stop trucks from entering landfill site

Bancharedanda - sisdol - landfill - waste disposal trucks

Kathmandu, July 18

Local of Bancharedanda have obstructed waste disposal trucks again.

Around 50 garbage trucks were stopped a few kilometres from the landfill on Monday while the city garbage management did not send any trucks to the area on Tuesday.

After the residents of Bancharedanda and Sisdol obstructed the disposal of garbage, the Garbage Management Association registered a writ in the court.

The Supreme Court had given an interim order not to implement the decision of the local level to collect fees from trucks going to dispose of waste in Bancharedanda and ordered the locals not to block them. But disregarding the orders of the court the locals have done it two days in a row.

Locals have alleged that they have been repeatedly lied to with fake promises.

Previously, the government and the city had reached an agreement with the residents of the landfill site-affected areas, which included the classification of waste into degradable and non-degradable categories, with only degradable waste being disposed of at the site.

However, the metropolis is collecting garbage without classifying it. This has irked the locals who have said they will not allow trucks to enter the area.

Garbage Management Association says it will not pick up garbage from Kathmandu from Wednesday as its transfer site in Teku is full of waste.
