Kathmandu, February 17
Baakhan Nyane Waa (BNW) hosted the launch of Guided by Gods, Lost in Lines, an autobiography by German architect Wolfgang Korn at Yetkha Bahal in Kathmandu on February 15.
Korn, who arrived in Nepal in 1968, is celebrated for his pioneering work in Newa architectural studies and conservation. His early efforts included extensive documentation of historic structures like the Kasthamandap, and he has recently contributed to post-earthquake heritage preservation through the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust.
The book offers firsthand narratives from 1968 to 1977, a period when the Kathmandu Valley retained much of its medieval charm. Drawing from diaries, letters, and notes, Korn provides an engaging account of the Newa community’s culture, traditions, architecture, cuisine, and spirituality. He also reflects on Nepal’s evolution, emphasising the importance of preserving its traditional heritage.
The launch was launched jointly by Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol; German Ambassador to Nepal, Dr Thomas Printz; author Wolfgang Korn; and BNW Chairperson, Aswain Bir Singh Tamrakar.
In the Korn shared his experiences, and remarks were given by reviewers and guests. Reviewer Alok Siddhi Tuladhar shared that the book is a valuable resource for those interested in Nepal’s history, architecture, and culture.
