Thirteen private health institutions in Mirchaiya, Siraha, have been shut down following an inspection led by Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh.
Out of 14 institutions inspected on Saturday, only one was operating legally, while the remaining 13 were found to be running without proper authorisation. The closed facilities include Simit Mount Hospital, SJ Care Polyclinic, Mangalam Health Care Center, Siddhakamana Hospital, Shanti Health Care, Bal Sansar Health Care, Ram Oral & Dental Clinic, Rekha Nursing Home, Mithila Chashmaghar Eye Center, Bal Kalyan Health Care, Vishnu Polyclinic, Laxmi Health Care, and Lifeline Clinic.
Meanwhile, Manakamana Mid Eastern Hospital, which had a permit for 15 beds but was found operating with more than 25 beds without meeting required standards, has been given 15 days to comply with regulations.
According to Public Health Officer Santosh Kumar Thakur, the hospital lacked basic facilities such as an anesthesiologist and ventilators.
Authorities also reported that during the inspection, staff at Siddhakamana Hospital abandoned the premises, leaving eight admitted patients behind and locking the facility. Two individuals claiming to be employees were later detained by the police.
So far, the provincial government has inspected 157 private health institutions, of which only 17 met legal standards. A total of 108 were shut down, while 25 have been ordered to renew their licenses.
