Interestingly, aside from the main opposition Nepali Congress, some lawmakers from the parties in the ruling coalition have also criticised the budget.
Discussions over the budget, scheduled to start from Sunday, began from Monday as the Nepali Congress created obstructions.
At Thursday’s session, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Mahendra Yadav from the Nepali Congress criticised the budget, while Gokarna Bista from the ruling CPN-UML defended the same.
Those opposing the budget have been saying that the KP Sharma Oli-led government prepared and presented the budget to earn cheap popularity for electoral gains. They point that implementation of populist programmes mentioned in the budget will bleed the national economy.
