Central Plaza fire in Itahari: 16 rescued, 3 still trapped

Kathmandu, March 26

Sixteen people, including 11 men and 5 women, have been rescued from the fire that broke out at Central Plaza, a commercial building in Itahari, Sunsari.

The fire started around 9:30 AM at the building in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-6, trapping several individuals inside.

Efforts to control the blaze are ongoing, with personnel from the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and local volunteers engaged in firefighting and rescue operations.

A team of 105 personnel, led by SSP Manish Thapa from Armed Police Force No. 1 Baraha Battalion, is on the scene. Six fire engines from Nepal Army and Nepal Police have also been deployed.

Authorities suspect that a few more individuals may still be trapped inside, and a Nepal Army helicopter has been dispatched for rescue operations. The Home Minister’s Secretariat confirmed that aerial rescue efforts have already begun.

Rescue teams have spotted three more people still stranded inside, awaiting evacuation.
