Translocation of one-horned rhinos from Chitwan National Park to Bardiya National Park is beginning today (March 1). The move is taking place despite protests from local people. The plan is to translocate five rhinos to Bardiya from Chitwan, on March 1 and March 5. Today will see translocation of two rhinos to Bardiya from Chitwan.
Of the five rhinos chosen for translocation, two are males and five are females. A 120-member team under Dr Kamal Gaire, wildlife specialist at the CNP, is translocating the pachyderms.
The CNP has mobilised 30 elephants for the translocation of the rhinos from Sukebhar of Chitwan to Bardiya.
