Doctors’ protest shuts health services except for emergencies across Nepal
Kathmandu, February 12
A protest launched by the Nepal Medical Association, the umbrella organisation of medical doctors, has shut down health services except for emergencies across the country.
The association resorted to the strike after the police beat Dr Janith Singh of the National Trauma Centre during his movement on the road around the visit of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to the parliament building on Friday.
Although the Nepal Police suspended the police personnel involved in the case, the doctors have been protesting asking for stern action against them.
In some places in Kathmandu, the doctors also came to the streets and blocked traffic movement.
The Ministry of Health and Population has urged the doctors to withdraw from the strike and return to duty. Efforts are underway to convince them.
